Purpose of the round tower
The main purpose of the round tower in front of us was defensive. In addition to being a prominent part of the castle's defensive structures, it was also used as an armory in which gunpowder, bales of hay, lead and similar inventory used in the defense of the castle were kept. However, the tower was also used for different bird species breeding.
The captains initially bred birds of prey that they used in hunting, and additionally, pigeons were bred for food in the still visible grooves on the interior walls. Surprisingly, the Svetvinčenat pigeon meat even reached the tables of the Venetian rulers. Vinegar marinated pigeons were also mentioned as food transported to Venice. You will also see pigeon shelters in the square tower, where an entire floor was adapted for their breeding.
